A Championship Start
With over 30 academies represented, the energy in the venue was absolutely electric from the first match to the last. Competitors of all ages and skill levels stepped onto the mats, eager to test themselves in both Gi and No-Gi divisions using a single-elimination format that kept the pace flying throughout the day.
We were honoured to have Claudio Calasans Jr., a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend and multiple-time world champion, serving as our head referee. His presence elevated the professionalism of the event and set a proper high standard for future competitions.
Top Performing Academies
Fair play to Studio Galera, who absolutely bossed it on the day, claiming first place with 333 points, 28 gold medals, and 53 total wins. Their depth across divisions was unreal, with competitors from white belt to black belt bringing home medals.
AONTACH JJ secured second place with 183 points, showcasing some class performances across their team. Dragon Jiu Jitsu rounded out the top three with 160 points, setting the stage for what would become a season-long battle among these three powerhouses.

International Representation
While Irish academies made up the bulk of competitors, we were absolutely delighted to welcome teams from Portugal (MENTE BLINDADA ACADEMY), the United States (Pedigo Submission Fighting, 10th Planet Poway), Spain (ASSOCIACION ARANHA), Brazil (ESJJ PORTUGUES), and the United Kingdom (Odyssey BJJ UK). This international presence showed the growing appeal of Irish BJJ competitions.
Thank You
What a brilliant day of Jiu-Jitsu! A massive thank you to all the athletes who stepped on the mats and gave it absolutely everything. Your dedication, skill, and sportsmanship made this event truly special.
We also want to express our gratitude to the referees and staff for their hard work in keeping everything running smoothly throughout the day. Events like this wouldn't be a thing without your effort and professionalism.
The Cork Open 2025 set a proper high bar for the year ahead. See you at the next one on 11 May!
